Former Pakistan cricketer Mushtaq Ahmed joined the England U19 team by signing a contract with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
Mushtaq, 53, who has performed the spin bowling coach’s role with England (2008-2014), West Indies (2018-19) and Pakistan (2020-22) has also held the position of the Pakistan team’s bowling consultant (2014-16).
His most recent stint was with the Bangladesh cricket team where he served as a spin bowling coach.
Mushtaq will be bringing a wealth of experience with him to the England U19 team and the English young spinners would be able to learn a great deal from the legendary wrist spinner.
Under his short-term contract, Mushtaq is eager to make the most of the opportunity he is given and will try to contribute by developing young talent during his stint.
Mushtaq has previously worked with the ECB and is satisfied with their arrangements. He also confirmed that he was not contacted by any other cricketing board during the time.
England U19 team will play a two-Test series against Sri Lanka U19 which is set to begin on July 8.
Mushtaq took 185 wickets in 52 Tests at an average of 32.97 while he also claimed 161 wickets for Pakistan in 144 ODIs.
He played a key role in propelling Imran's Tigers to World Cup glory in 1992, memorably snaring Graeme Hick with one of his googlies in the final.
