Andy Murray received a huge offer to play Wimbledon 2025 after Emma Raducanu pulled out of this year’s mixed doubles match.
Murray was set to make his final appearance at Wimbledon on Saturday but Raducanu, just hours before the match, withdrew from the tournament.
The Brit did not play men’s singles this year as he was not fit enough following back surgery but he did feature in men’s doubles alongside his brother Jamie but lost in the first round.
As things stand, Murray has played his final match at Wimbledon but has received an offer to team up with 2021 Wimbledon champion Ashleigh Barty in mixed doubles next year.
“Maybe Andy will play in the invitational with me here next year,” Barty told The Express. “Andy has had an incredible career, I have so much respect for him.
”He deserves all of the accolades he receives. He has done so much for our sport. Personally, Andy has always been very kind to me. I value our friendship.”
After the defeat in men’s doubles, Murray made an emotional speech where he stated that he would love to keep playing but his body would not allow him anymore.
”It is hard, because I would love to keep playing but I can’t,” Murray said about his upcoming retirement. ”Physically it’s just too tough now. All of the injuries have added up and like I said they haven’t been insignificant.
”I want to play forever. I love this sport. It’s given me so much, taught me loads of lessons over the years that I can use for the rest of my life. I don’t want to stop so it is hard.”
Murray will now play his last event in singles tennis at the Paris Olympics tennis tournament in July-August.
