HARARE: Top-order batter Ben Curran on Monday, earned maiden Zimbabwe call-up for the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, scheduled to run from December 17 to 21.

Ben, brother of England cricketers Sam and Tom, who earlier shared his intentions of representing Zimbabwe, will be following in the footsteps of his late father, Kevin Curran.

“Curran, 28, earns his place following stellar performances in domestic cricket,” Zimbabwe Cricket said in a statement.

“He is the son of the late Kevin Curran, a former Zimbabwe international and coach, and also the brother of England internationals Tom and Sam Curran,” the statement added.

Notably, Ben played first-class cricket for Northamptonshire from 2018 to 2022, before making a move to Zimbabwe.

The left-handed batter emerged as the leading run-scorer in in Zimbabwe’s 50-over and red-ball domestic competitions.

Reacting to his brother’s selection in Zimbabwe’s squad, Sam, who won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup with England, expressed his excitement for the development.

“Such special news, couldn’t be happier for you BC,” wrote Sam on X, formerly Twitter.

“Someone will be looking down with a huge smile on their face today,” he added.

The three-match will be played solely in Harare, with matches scheduled on December 17, 19 and 21.
