The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has announced that Jonathan Trott will continue as the head coach of the national cricket team until the end of 2025.
This contract extension follows Trott's successful tenure, which has brought significant improvements to the team’s performance and international standing.
"The decision comes after his successful 2.5-year tenure, during which he made significant contributions to the team’s progress and development," the ACB stated in a press release.
The former England cricketer has been leading Afghanistan’s cricketing journey for the past 2.5 years.
Under his coaching, the team has achieved remarkable success, including notable victories in ICC tournaments.
In the 2023 Cricket World Cup, Afghanistan finished sixth, securing wins against cricketing giants such as England, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and the Netherlands.
The team further elevated their stature during the 2024 T20 World Cup, where they made history by reaching their first-ever semi-final.
During the tournament, Afghanistan recorded impressive victories over Australia, Bangladesh, and New Zealand, marking a historic achievement for the nation.
Afghanistan is currently on a multi-format tour of Zimbabwe, where Trott will oversee the team during the ODI series.
However, due to personal commitments, he will not be available for the T20I and Test series.
In Trott's absence, former Afghanistan cricketer Hamid Hassan will take charge as head coach for the T20I and Test formats, with Nawroz Mangal serving as the assistant coach.
