Pakistan men’s team assistant coach Azhar Mahmood has announced to take legal action over false allegations and narratives circulating on social media and other media platforms after a disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup 2024.

There have been allegations circulating that the families of players and coaching staff travelled to the USA on Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) expense.

He denied these allegations and stated that they are entirely baseless and false, citing it it is extremely upsetting to hear them.

“This culture of falsely accusing and misleading people to believe a false narrative is now getting ridiculous and dangerous. Speaking without evidence and misconstruing facts is a criminal offence, and those engaging in such behaviour will be dealt with through legal action,” Mahmood wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

“Pursuing an increase in followers and media attention by spreading falsehoods is downright unacceptable.

“I will be pursuing legal advice against those responsible for making these false allegations towards me and my family, and strict action will be taken accordingly. We will not be discussing this matter further on social media.

“I urge everyone to avoid engaging with or entertaining these harmful narratives as it is essential to put an end to such behaviour in our media culture,” he added.

Earlier, Geo News reported that Pakistan captain Babar Azam could take legal action against YouTubers and former players who accused him of misconduct during the T20 World Cup.

Following Pakistan's early exit from the competition, criticism mounted against Babar and the team's performance.

Sources indicate a social media campaign targeted Babar during the tournament, prompting him to feel disheartened by the allegations.

Babar is reportedly considering sending legal notices to the individuals involved and has begun consultations with legal experts.

PCB's legal department is said to be gathering evidence related to the statements made against Babar by YouTubers and former players.

Remember, Pakistan didn’t qualify for the Super Eight, which led to its elimination from the tournament.
