The United States (USA) pacer Ali Khan opened up on their historic win against Pakistan after a thrilling Super Over in the league stage of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 saying that the Green Shirts took them lightly.
Pakistan struggled while batting first but they managed to post a 160-run target for the home side in Dallas which they equalled with Aaron Jones hitting Haris Rauf for 14 runs in the last over.
Mohammad Amir took the ball in the Super Over and the USA concluded their innings 18-1 and in reply, Pakistan could only score 13-1 and ended up losing the match by five runs.
USA’s seamer Ali Khan recently opened up on their remarkable win where he stated that they believed more than Pakistan. He also revealed that the intent was missing from Babar Azam’s side, they didn’t play attacking cricket which made things difficult for them.
“Our belief was bigger than them. I think Pakistan took us lightly. It was their first game, and they hadn't played on that ground before while we've played there often,” Khan said while talking on a YouTube channel.
“We were used to the conditions. When they started batting, we didn't see intent from them, and they batted very slowly in the powerplay. Yes, Rizwan got out early but we didn't see much intent after that. Fakhar Zaman hit a six and showed some intent but luckily I got him out. Pakistan didn't play attacking cricket there and went into their shell,” he added.
It is worth mentioning that Pakistan lost to the USA and India in their first two matches of the tournament despite having the games in their grasp.
After their back-to-back losses, the Green Shirts’ chances of making it to the Super 8 became less and they were dependent on the USA losing to Ireland.
However, the match between the USA and Ireland was called off due to rain in Florida and both teams were awarded a point, which ended Pakistan’s journey in the World Cup.
