Novak Djokovic was left unimpressed with some of the Centre Court crowd for using a Holger Rune chant as "an excuse to boo" during his match against the Danish player on Monday.

Rune’s winners and Djokovic errors with extended cries of 'Ruuuuuuu-ne' during the pair’s fourth-round match by hundreds of fans present at the venue.

Speaking after the match, Djokovic, who won 6-3, 6-4, 6-2, felt the crowd were disrespecting him.

In reply, Rishi Persad, on-court interviewer, told the Serb that they were backing his opponent but Djokovic didn’t completely agree with it.

“To all the fans that have had respect and stayed here tonight, I thank you from the bottom of my heart and I appreciate it,” he began. “And to all those people that have chosen to disrespect the player - in this case me - have a goooooooood night.

"I know they were cheering for Rune but that’s an excuse to also boo. I have been on the tour for more than 20 years. I know all the tricks," he added.

Djokovic, nine-time finalist at SW19, is aiming to clinch a joint record eighth Wimbledon men's title. But his relationship with the crowd has always been hot and cold.

After Djokovic defeated Roger Federer in the 2019 final, his ex-coach Boris Becker said he deserved more respect from a partisan crowd who had mostly supported the Swiss star.

And two years ago, Djokovic was booed after he blew a kiss to fans after his semi-final victory against Briton Cameron Norrie.
