Hardik Pandya highlighted issues with the Indian cricket team after they defeated Bangladesh in their T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 match which they won by 50 runs at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua.
Pandya bagged the Player of the Match award as he was the top scorer for India with the bat scoring a magnificent 50 (27) with the help of four fours and three sixes and picked one wicket while bowling.
Talking after the match, Pandya stated that India need to stop losing wickets in bunches ahead of the semi-finals as with two wins in Super 8, Sharma’s men are likely to appear in the last four of the tournament.
“We have played really good cricket. More than anything we have stuck together and executed our plans. I did realise the batters wanted to use the breeze, I made sure I did not give them a chance where the wind was blowing, it was about being one step ahead as a batter,” Pandya said after the match.
“We as a group can get better in a lot of places, losing wickets in bunches is something we can rectify and get better at, apart from that, we are looking good. I have been fortunate to play for the country, it was a freak injury I had, I wanted to come back but God had other plans. Luck comes to people who work hard and that has stuck with me for a long time.”
For India to qualify for the semi-finals, the scenario is pretty straightforward.
They need to beat Australia in order to qualify for the semi-finals. A loss against the Aussies would not be a big problem, provided it is not by a big margin.
India currently have a net run rate (NRR) of 2.43. If they lose big, there is a possibility that they might be knocked out before semis since Australia and Afghanistan can go through, instead of India, on NRR.
