Alvaro Morata is poised to join AC Milan as a new player. Despite recently stating his commitment to Atletico Madrid, the striker is returning to Serie A. A verbal agreement has already been reached between Morata and the Italian club.
According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, the deal is finalised, with Milan set to pay Morata's €13 million release clause. This move allows Morata to step away from the media scrutiny he faced in Spain, where he has expressed dissatisfaction with his treatment.
Morata will sign a four-year contract with Milan, who were able to convince him during the Euro 2024 through discussions with Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The former Swedish striker prioritised Morata's signing for the upcoming 2024/25 season.
This week, Morata will undergo medical examinations in Madrid. His transfer to Milan is expected to be officially announced in the coming days.
Remember, Morata has spoken extensively recently about the tough treatment he feels he receives in Spain and has expressed a desire to return to Italy. Despite scoring 21 goals for Atletico last season, a dry spell with just three strikes since January saw him sidelined towards the end of the campaign. Atletico will now need to seek another forward, as negotiations for Artem Dovbyk are stalled due to his asking price.
After winning Euro 2024, Morata spoke about how Andres Iniesta and Bojan Krkic helped him deal with his mental health issues and the pressure of playing for Spain. Speaking to Diario AS, Morata said.
"It’s not the right time to talk about my future, it would be selfish."
"I’m going to enjoy this. I send my thanks to my wife and family and Andres Iniesta. If it weren’t for him and Bojan Krkic, I wouldn’t have played in the Euros. They have been through what I have been and there is always light at the end of the tunnel," he added.
