BRISBANE: India’s ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah on Sunday, went passed legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev with his 12th five-wicket haul during the second day of the ongoing third Test against Australia here at the Brisbane Cricket Ground.
Despite a forgetful day for his team, the right-arm pacer was clinical with the ball as he returned brilliant bowling figures of 5/72 in his 25 overs.
Bumrah started his spell by dismissing both Australian openers Usman Khawaja (21) and Nathan McSweeney (nine) in his successive overs.
The right-arm pacer then broke the threatening fourth-wicket partnership between Head and Smith by getting rid of the latter.
He then dismissed Mitchell Marsh (five) and set batter Head in the same over to claim his 12th five-wicket haul in the longest format.
As a result, the right-arm pacer went past Dev to become the Indian bowler with most five-wicket hauls in SENA countries – South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia.

His bowling exploits also put him in touching distance to break all-time India’s record of taking most Test wickets in Australia, only two shy of leading wicket-taker Dev.

Furthermore, this was his ninth five-wicket haul in World Test Championship (WTC) history, equalling Australia’s Pat Cummins’s at the top.
Jasprit Bumrah (62) has now taken the second-most wickets in the WTC 2023-25, and is only behind compatriot Ravichandran Ashwin, who has 63 scalps to his name.
