India thumped Zimbabwe by 42 runs to complete a 4-1 win in the T20I series played at the Harare Sports Club.

The hosts managed 125 after India posted 167/6 in their 20 overs after being asked to bat first.

Earlier, a fine half-century by Sanju Samson and a quickfire cameo by Shivam Dube propelled India to a modest total.

India began with a flourish, thanks to two big sixes from opener Yashasvi Jaiswal off a no-ball and the first legal delivery of the opening over by Sikandar Raza, the Zimbabwe captain.

However, Raza had the last laugh as he clean bowled Jaiswal for 12 runs off five balls. India was 13/1 in 0.4 overs.

Abhishek Sharma joined the captain, Shubman Gill, at the crease. The pair eased some pressure by taking down Faraz Akram with two fours and a six in the third over. But in the next over, pacer Blessing Muzarabani removed Abhishek for 14 runs off 11 balls, which included a four and a six.

In the very next over, India found themselves in big trouble as skipper Gill lost his wicket to Richard Ngarva for 13 runs off 14 balls, with Raza taking a catch at mid-on. India was 40/3 in five overs.

Samson and Parag continued their fine chemistry displayed in the league, this time in Indian colours.

They took India to the halfway point of the innings without much attacking, besides a six each from both. Mavuta got the scalp of Parag for 22 runs off 24 balls, including a six, after the batter mistimed a slog which landed in the hands of Ngarva at long-off. The 65-run partnership was over.

Meanwhile, Samson reached his second T20I half-century in 39 balls, with four sixes.

Samson's fine innings came to an end with Muzarbani getting the crucial wicket and Tadiwanashe Marumani taking a fine catch. The wicketkeeper-batter was dismissed for 58 runs off 45 balls, with a four and four sixes.

In the 19th over, Dube relieved some pressure by smashing Ngarva for two fours and a six. India scored a total of 16 runs from the over and crossed the 150-run mark.

Muzarbani was the pick of the bowlers for Zimbabwe. Ngarva, Raza, and Mavuta also took a wicket each.

In reply, Zimbabwe lost Wessly Madhevere in the first over while Brian Bennett departed in the third over. Tadiwanashe Marumani and Dion Myers tried to put pressure back on India, however, Washington Sundar ended the 44-run stand by removing Marumani. He made 24-ball 27.

Meanwhile, Myers departed in the 13th over as he tried to accelerate. He made 32-ball 34.

Skipper Raza (8) didn't do much damage as he was run out. Faisal Akram (27) played some blistering shots at the backend but the runs were too many to pull off.

Mukesh Kumar was India's best bowler with 4-22 while Dube picked two wickets.
