Rafael Nadal return to action on Monday in Bastad, Sweden, winning his opening-round doubles contest with partner Casper Ruud.

Advancing by a scoreline of 6-3, 6-4 over Guido Andreozzi and Miguel Reyes-Varela, Nadal and Ruud will next face either Cameron Norrie/Mariano Navone or Theo Arribage/Roman Safiullin.

In singles competition, Nadal will start his campaign later this week against Leo Borg, son of 11-time Major champion Bjorn Borg.

Nadal is refining his skills for the forthcoming Summer Olympics in Paris, France. The tournament will take place at Stade Roland Garros.

Nadal opened up after the win and shed light on playing for the first time at this venue since 2005.

"It’s a pleasure playing with a good friend and amazing player like Casper here. It was a good match. We played quite well for the first time playing together. Happy to be back here after almost 20 years.

“It’s a beautiful thing for me. I have great memories from this place from 2003, 2004, and 2005. I’m enjoying this week and hopefully I’ll keep going," he added.

On the other hand, Nadal also spoke about Carlos Alcaraz’s Wimbledon win & Spain’s Euro 2024 win over England.

“I think the Spanish team played amazing from the first day of the Euros to the last. The whole country is very proud. A very happy day yesterday too with Carlos winning Wimbledon. It was an amazing day for Spanish sport. Sport generates motivation and passion for people. That’s good for the country without a doubt," he added.
