Interior Minister and Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Mohsin Naqvi had an exclusive discussion with Geo News on Wednesday.

During the interview, the Chairman was asked about the team’s current performance and if the board has made any decisions regarding the team.

“The team is still playing in the World Cup, the nation has to be patient with them. There are still matches left to play and we should wait for the outcome of the tournament,” said Naqvi.

The Pakistan cricket team has been on a poor stint with a 2-2 draw against New Zealand in a five-match T20I series at home, meanwhile the three-match T20I series against Ireland in Ireland ended in a 2-1 win for Pakistan despite tragically losing against the hosts in a T20I for the first time. It was followed by a 2-0 loss against England in a four-match T20I series with two games abandoned due to rain.

Then the team started their T20 World Cup journey against the USA which could have been an easy win for Pakistan but ended in a one-sided super over win for the USA. They then met arch-rivals India on June 9 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium and bowled magnificently but the batters failed to achieve a total of 120 runs.

They finally found a win against Canada on June 11 but their overall performance in the T20 World Cup 2024 including the win against Canada has been below average.

Naqvi stated that regardless of the team’s performance in the first two games of the T20 World Cup 2024, these are the players who are going to play the rest of the tournament and represent Pakistan.

“Whatever their performance, they are to play the rest of the tournament. For that, they require all the support."

The chairman also assured that the internal matters of the team are being discussed in the PCB at large. However, he also stated that anything revealed about it in public right now is not suitable.

“We are discussing matters regarding the team and for now, to talk about it is not suitable.”

The Pakistan cricket team is on the edge of disqualification in the T20 World Cup 2024 but they still have one more game to go on June 16 against Ireland.
